What is Kosher Tea?

Kosher tea comes in almost every variety and blend from black, green and oolongs to herbal, white and flavored choices.

It is readily available from most tea companies, including those with worldwide distribution.

While you will not detect taste differences between kosher-designated tea and non-kosher blends, the brew is distinguished because it is produced and packaged under strict supervision of a rabbi who certifies the tea according to Jewish law, as outlined in the Torah (the Old Testament).

In Hebrew the word, kosher, means “fit or proper.” Jewish law details the type of animals and other food products that can be eaten based on standards of purity. It also dictates that meat and dairy foods not be eaten together.

With the vast number of processed foods on grocery store shelves today, it may be difficult to fully determine product content and additives that may be present -- even when foods and beverages are labeled as organic or natural.

Kosher certification ensures that products are pure and do not come in contact with non-kosher products during any step in tea processing and packaging.

Kosher foods and beverages, which are designated with a Kosher symbol (typically a circled "u" logo, were once selected primarily by Jewish people.

Now consumers of all religions and areas of the world are seeking out Kosher foods and beverages because of the assurance of quality, integrity and purity.
